Kiwanis Club of Normal:
A couple years after starting his career at State Farm Insurance Companies, Kevin was asked by Past Kiwanis International Vice-President Al Provasi to get involved in a new Kiwanis Club in Bloomington-Normal. The Kiwanis Club of Normal was chartered on March 17, 1988, and (at the age of 24) Kevin was asked to serve as Charter Secretary of the club.
Being involved in the building and leadership of a brand new club has been a valuable experience for Kevin. He was introduced to the new club building process and learned a great deal about club administration. Club traditions and procedure had not been developed, and it was exciting for Kevin to be involved from the very beginning.
Kevin served over three years as club secretary/club bulletin editor, earning Distinguished Club Secretary in 1990-91. He served as the fifth president of the Kiwanis Club of Normal in 1992-93, a year that saw an increase in service and membership for the (still) relatively new club. Once again, Kevin was recognized as a Distinguished Club President for his efforts.
Kevin continues to serve his home club. Since 1993, he has served as the Kiwanis Advisor to the University High School Key Club. In the Fall of 2007, Kevin was instrumental in forming a new Builders Club at Holy Trinity Junior High School, where his wife (Jane) serves as Faculty Advisor, and son (Matthew) was a Charter Member.
He also was heavily involved in his club’s 20th anniversary committee, as the Kiwanis Club of Normal celebrated 20 years of service in March and April, 2008, and another year of distinguished club recognition from Kiwanis International. Kevin attributes his club’s “rebirth” in the last couple years as a major learning experience that has prepared him for Governor-Elect.
