A Family Tradition of Service

To say that Kevin McConnell has been around Kiwanis all of his life is not an exaggeration.  Kevin’s father—Jerry McConnell—was a 22 year Kiwanian, who was a distinguished Lt. Governor (1972-73).  As early as the age of two, Kevin was attending Kiwanis events with the South-West Peoria club.  Early in his life, he witnessed firsthand the importance of giving back to his community, as well as the importance of strong leadership at all levels of the organization.

As Kevin entered high school, he immediately joined the Key Club of Woodruff HS, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Peoria.  Around the same time, his father was named Key Club District Administrator (a role he held from 1977-84).  Kevin held two district board positions prior to his election as a Trustee of Key Club International.  Throughout his high school years, he worked side-by-side with his father and other district Kiwanis leaders that had a positive influence on Kevin’s life.

In March, 1988, Kevin was asked by Past Kiwanis International Vice-President Al Provasi to join a new club: Kiwanis Club of Normal.  That club celebrated its 20th Anniversary this year by chartering a new Builders Club at Holy Trinity Junior High.  Kevin’s wife (Jane) serves as Faculty Advisor, and his son (Matthew) is a charter member.

While Jerry McConnell passed away in 1985, Kevin’s mother (Peggy) is an active member of the Suburban Peoria club.  The McConnells have passed down their love of Kiwanis through the generations, and all of those generations stand ready to serve with Kevin as Governor-Elect.
