About Our Club

The Kiwanis Club of Normal was chartered in March of 1988.  The new club was sponsored by four other area Kiwanis clubs – Bloomington, LeRoy, Bloomington Golden K and Pontiac.  Charter night was held in May of 1988 at the Sheraton Hotel in Normal.  Mac McElroy served as Charter President and Kevin McConnell served as Charter Secretary.  The new club met bright and early on Thursday mornings and bean to grow in membership.

During the mid to late 1990’s the Kiwanis Club of Normal met in several locations and became known as the club that “closed restaurants down”.  While location hopping the club also became more involved in service to the community with building a planting on Constitution Trail, volunteering with The Baby Fold’s Festival of Trees, helping Habitat for Humanity and so much more.

As the new century started the club found a more permanent location at the Signature Inn in Normal.  It also found renewed growth in the membership.  The Kiwanis Club of Normal was named a “Distinguished Club” for the 2006-07 and 2007-08 Kiwanis years for meeting several criteria including membership growth (nearly 50%).

Today the club consists of about 35 members from various industries and professions.  While some of the faces have changed over the years the focus continues to be changing the world one child and one community at a time.
